The fall work has started around here. The calves were got pre weaning shots today and turned back out with the cows. The heifers are going to get their tags and shots someday soon, as soon as we get the tags. We are having a hard time getting them. I think tomorrow they should be in. We have checked 3 times already, and still not here.
Camas is starting 4-H tonight. I hope her Mom and Dad are ready for years of fun. I think she is excited to join.
I haven't sewn since I got home from Idaho and the retreat. On Thursday, I'm going to get going again.
Eating corn and tomatoes from the garden. For awhile now, actually. It tastes so good.
Everyone is putting up their fall decorations, and Halloween stuff too. I just can't seen to get it out yet. Maybe this weekend since it will soon be Oct 1. But that would mean I have to clean the house, top to bottom and that is a lot of work. Slowly maybe i'll get it done.
Last friday, Jeff from Reno, brought his hot air balloon out to the valley. The school kids got to getin the basket and learn all about ballooning. He took Buster Wines, Judy Neff, David Neff, Patty Nehmelman, Lance Knudsen and Tracy Wines up for a ride. He did three hops and took two at a time. I have some pictures, but they won't upload to blogger. It was lots of fun. He was sure good with the kids. Turns out his is a special education teacher. We had so darn much fun we got up early the next morning and went to Spring Creek to the Balloon Festival the next morning and watched 29 balloons sail around. The neatest one was "Off the Wall" which was Humpty Dumpty upside down. It is owned and piloted by Jeff. Great fun!

some flowers
Finally some flowers are growing in the beds. It has been a few years since I planted them and they are finally blooming and looking better than a few sticks. I sure feels like fall in the air the last few days. I'm not sure how much longer the garden will keep growing. We have enjoyed peas, beets, carrots, beans, green peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, and spagetti squash, onions and cucumbers. We are waiting for the corn to get busy and make ears with something on them. There are lots of tomatoes, green ones. They just can't seem to ripen. We are going to have to start liking fried green tomatoes, I guess. S

Is the summer over??
This morning starts the school year here in Elko County. Is the summer really over?? I haven't had kids go to school for many a year, but still think that when school starts, I'm going to turn the world over getting projects finished and starting new ones. I have lots of stuff and projects to finish. The garden is just really starting to produce. I should can beets and get some zucchini bread made and put in the freezer, and get some bread made. That should take a lot of the day.
Camas and Orrin got on the bus this morning with smiles on their faces. I hope they have a good first day and the rest of the year too. Morgan and Dana start next week, so I'm sure they are busy this week getting everything done that they have started.
We are still haying, we still have smiles on the faces. Through breakdowns and pivot problems, and everything else, they still have smiles. Must be that there is lots of hay to put up. We will cut the fair short and keep on haying.
Pregged the heifers Saturday. It went really well. Ultrasounded them so Steve could group them in tighter calving groups. He thinks they will sell better that way. They tested 92-93% pregnant. It was a good day.
I have some great flowers blooming now. No pictures today maybe later. I have some plants in now for their 3 rd year and they are doing great now. I hope thay spread a little and fill in some spots.
Time to get busy and get some monday laundry done and some lunch going..S

Stuck tractor
I actually got the lawn mower tractor stuck this morning. While getting as close to the creek as I could, I dropped off in a hole, and made it through till the back wheel dropped in the hole. I couldn't push it out, and finally had to pull it out with the 4-wheeler when Sierra and the kids came down to the house. I can't get that close anymore. Still haying, in the Lower Duck. There are actually some bales there. The pivot will be ready again in a week to 10 days. Some places are still to wet to get on. We may have to build new stackyards. Yippers!!! Tyrel is getting ready to go to Eureka. He may let the old dad and mom ride down with him. Eureka is usually a pretty good day.

It's been a long time!
It has been so long since I have even opened this site. We had a great weekend a few weeks ago. Tel was blessed. Dad was out from Elko and Cassidy, Morgan and Casey were up from Big Smoky Valley. The Knudsen bunch from Elko was also out. There was an exchange of kids that day. Casey stayed here in Ruby with Orrin, and Camas went home with Cassidy and Morgan. It was so much fun to have Casey around for a week. He made us laugh more than once or twice. He didn't seem to get homesick either. I do think he was very glad to get back home the next saturday. Dana was baptised, and I was sure glad we were able to attend that event. I know all of the kids were glad to see their families. It was such a nice day. Dana didn't feel very well that day, and we all felt bad about that. She rallied the next day, and is back to being Cute Dana.
Casey is now 5 years old. He is growing up so fast. Four grandkids in school in a few weeks, and three still at home. I don't know where the time goes. I understand that Cory is taking quite a few steps now and will soon be walking all over. I don't think I could keep up with him all day long. I have left my camera at home for all of these occasions, so I don't have any pictures to post. I'll leave that up to their parents anyway.
We are still haying, and trying to hay in wet fields. but, can't complain about the water. It's just so great to have an abundance, and have a good crop of hay.
Saturday, I get to go to the Battle Mtn. Quilt Show. It has been very fun in years past and lots of great quilts. The road trip with friends is also a highlight. The miles just fly by when you are having fun. The week after that is branding contest in Eureka. Tyrel and Cassidy, Rye and Jacob are entered up. Lance's horse has been injured and he didn't know if she would be sound. She is up and going now, and is entered in the horse show on friday. That's all for now....

He's Here
Tel Tomas Kundsen is here. He was born on Thursday early evening-late afternoon, and made it home to Ruby Valley at 1:30 local time. He is sure a cutie. I haven't gotten in his face yet with the camera to take some pictures yet, but will shortly. I think Camas and Orrin really like him. He has quite a bit of dark hair. We are glad he is here and that Sierra is doing great.

Waiting.... but not much longer
We are still waiting for Sierra to deliver their new baby. Tonight they are going to Twin and scheduled to have it tomorrow. So, sometime tomorrow we will have some news. Today is branding at big meadows for Tyrel and Lance. Steve and I get to meet with the banker to get a loan again . I am going to start playing the lottery all of the time. I think I could get by on a couple of million. I sometimes play when it gets over 100 million. No luck yet. It is still a tax on the mathmatically challenged. (Steve's phrase) I do not have the fabric I bought in Twin made up into a baby quilt yet. I was able to go to the longarm quilt show in Salt Lake . It was so much fun. Lots of beautiful quilts and some really far out and down right ugly ones too. I guess we don't all like the same thing. And that is a good thing. I still don't have a garden spot tilled and ready to go. It has been so cold and rainy that I don't think it would have mattered. Hopefully by the end of the month. No new and exciting pictures of the spring time in Ruby or finished projects either. Pretty boring and lazy around here. Last week was another week of busy-ness here. I had to cut out going to bookgroup. Something had to give and that was it. The third week is always packed with lots of stuff . bookgroup, ladies club, quilt guild, and dentist apt. and another trip to town.. Crazy. Everything always comes at the same time, it seems. Pictures of the new baby when IT gets here. If the mom and dad will let me.
